Linux Mint 19.3 will arrive at Christmas improving the image of previous versions

Linux Mint 19.3

Right after Disco Dingo was released, Canonical got down to business and began developing Eoan Ermine. This is something they always do and they are not the only ones: Clement Lefebvre, lead developer of "Mint", posted a few moments ago an entry on his blog in which he talks about Linux Mint 19.3. Still without a codename, the new installment of one of the most popular Ubuntu-based versions will arrive this Christmas.

The Mint developer team is going to have a few 4 months to prepare your next release. Looking at the short list of news that Lefebvre has offered us, it is more than likely that more news will be included in the Linux Mint 19.3 development cycle, but Lefebvre has already mentioned some of those that it will include, such as that the language settings will allow us , in addition to the language and region, configure the time format depending on the preferences of our country.

Confirmed what's new in Linux Mint 19.3

  • HiDPI support in Cinnamon and MATE will improve. There were some blurry icons and images in v19.2 and they have fixed things like flags (in language settings, software fonts tool, and screensaver) and theme preview in Cinnamon.
  • The icons in the system tray will also improve.
  • The update manager icon will be displayed correctly.

Clement Lefebvre has taken advantage of the entry in his blog to talk about the MintBox 3:

Compulab is hard at work on the MintBox 3. To emphasize the fact that these computers are unique and give them a superior feel, we invested in a diamond cut aluminum logo on the faceplate. It will be available in three specifications, including Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA GPUs. We are really excited and can't wait to get our hands on the first unit.

In short, Linux Mint 19.3 will arrive to polish the previous versions. He has not mentioned anything, so that it will be a normal versioni.e. not LTS. but it will be based on Ubuntu 18.04, so it will be an LTS version that will be supported until 2013.

As a normal version, it will be an update of the Mint elements introduced in Linux Mint 19 Tara, which is the LTS, based on Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver, the only difference is that from that point on, it will only receive maintenance and security updates until April. 2023 and if you want more news from Mint you will have to update to the future Linux Mint 20 already with the base of the predictable Ubuntu 20.04 that will also be LTS because two years will have passed since the previous one

Linux Mint is the desktop to follow in Gnome. Too bad Canonical doesn't realize it. There is too much fragmentation on Gnu / Linux. Beware of Microsoft; They already started buying Github, and now, they are the most enthusiastic about free software. Be careful, be careful!
