Linux Mint 19 will be called Tara

Linux Mint 18

The development of Ubuntu 18.04 is more alive than ever but it is not the only development alive. Recently Clem Lefebvre, leader of Linux Mint, has informed his Community about the work that they have started towards the next version of Linux Mint.

This version It will be called Linux Mint 19 and will be nicknamed Tara, a popular female name in Ireland and many other countries. Linux Mint 19 Tara will be based on Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver, the next LTS version of Ubuntu and will be used by the Linux Mint team until Ubuntu 20.04, which will succeed Ubuntu 18.04.

In addition to Tara, we have learned that the final version will be released to late May 2018 or early June 2018. The base version of Ubuntu to be used is Ubuntu 18.04, a version that will be released at the end of April, as we all know by now.

This version of Linux Mint will have some new features in programs like MintUpdate or Welcome Mint, but the most interesting thing will be the arrival of the GTK 3.22 libraries, libraries that will allow the use of modern GTK desktop themes as well as some current applications that did not work or did not work well due to using outdated libraries or did not have these libraries. These libraries will be used by Cinnamon, which will allow you to have Lots of support for Gnome Shell extensions and themes.

Stability and speed will be elements to take into account for this new version, elements that have been present in the latest versions of Linux Mint and that have been the envy of many other distributions. At the moment, this is the only thing we know about this new version of Linux Mint, but it will not be the last. However Will Linux Mint 19 inherit the bugs that have appeared in the latest versions of Ubuntu? What do you think?
