LinuxMint 18.2, a new version that comes with all the official flavors

Linux Mint 18.2 Cinnamon Edition

The LinuxMint team has released this weekend the new version of its distribution. A version that curiously comes out with all the official flavors corresponding to the new version. This is, We already have LinuxMint version 18.2 Cinnamon, MATE, KDE and Xfce available.

These versions are free and are still based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, a version of Ubuntu that still has old but very stable libraries and applications for any distribution. In general, LinuxMint 18.2 is based on Ubuntu 16.04, has kernel 4.8 and uses the latest versions of Cinnamon, MATE, KDE and XFCE desktops. In each flavor new improvements are added, improvements that the user can benefit from, but in general there are elements that are in all flavors such as MintUpdate-Tool, a Software tool that helps us update the distribution even through the terminal, a novelty that appears in this version.

Blueberry is the bluetooth manager, a manager that has been updated and its user interface renewed. Lightdm will continue to be the session manager for LinuxMint, however this time the default theme will be slick. A lightweight and highly configurable theme.

What's new in LinuxMint 18.2 Cinnamon?

The main version, the version of LinuxMint with Cinnamon comes with Cinnamon 3.4, the latest version of this desktop that was born in this distribution. Cinnamon 3.4 comes with some changes to the user usability. In this version already Cinnamon Spices tools and X-Apps are incorporated by default. Within the X-Apps we have Xed, as a basic text editor; to XPlayer as a media player; XReader as a pdf document viewer; Xviewer as an image viewer and Pix as an image manager.

What's new in LinuxMint 18.2 MATE?

The MATE version has essentially the same new features and changes, but all with MATE as the main desktop. This time the desktop version we have is MATE 1.18, an updated and stable version of this Gnome fork. The X-Apps are also in this version as well as the rest of the news. In MintUpdate, the software manager, we can make a certain package downgrade, lowering the version of this program.

What's new in LinuxMint 18.2 KDE?

In this version we will find few changes. LinuxMint 18.2 KDE is based on Ubuntu 16.04, with kernel 4.8 and KDE Plasma 5.8. This time it is not the latest version but it is the most stable. In LinuxMint 18.2 we don't have the XApps, we have a very clean Plasma version that inherits the version changes only: that is, the Blueberry, MintUpdate-Tool and LigthDM changes.

What's new in LinuxMint 18.2 XFCE?

LinuxMint 18.2 XFCE is the light flavor of LinuxMint. This time we have XFCE 4.12 but the window manager, Xfwm4 comes in version 4.13. Whisker Menu, the menu application, comes in version 1.7.2, a version that allows us, among other things, to run applications faster. The XApps are in this version as well as the rest of Sonya's changes and tools, which makes LinuxMint 18.2 XFCE just as powerful as the major version.

How to get LinuxMint 18.2

If we have LinuxMint installed on our computer, we can install the new version from MintUpdate, but if we want to install the new version, we just have to go to the official download page to get the installation ISO image of any official flavor that we want to install.

Hello, I have installed the version of LinuxMint Mate 18.2 (32bit) but the videos are giving me problems, they are choppy! my notebook is something old from 2010 that is to say a dual core amd 4 gb of ram. I already update the codec but it remains the same at least in full screen even with the vlc

Mine is a little older, I am not an expert but it seems a controller problem, in mine there is no other option but to use the proprietary one.
