IBM LinuxONE III, with Ubuntu and up to 190 cores and 40TB

LinuxONE III

To enable innovation and support impossible initiatives, IBM launched a new team. Its about LinuxONE III, a "tower" computer that, in Canonical's words, provides functions for the «advanced data and privacy protection, business resilience and scalability, and cloud enablement and integration«. How could it be otherwise considering that the company that runs Mark Shuttleworth has entered the scene, it will be moved by Ubuntu.

To ensure business reliability, the LinuxONE III offers a consolidation of up to 10: 1 for key workloads, but if that doesn't tell you anything, maybe it will, it will be available with up to 190 cores (a "normal" computer has 4) and 40TB of storage. With all of this, businesses can seamlessly integrate into the stack with hybrid multi-cloud platforms and workloads.

LinuxONE III is the latest beast from IBM

We continue to provide customer choice when it comes to Linux distributions with LinuxONE III. This generation of hardware supports all versions of Ubuntu LTS for IBM Z and LinuxONE that are currently in service, including Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. For those who want to make use of the latest features, Ubuntu 19.04 is also available.

LinuxONE III provides advanced hybrid cloud and on-premises security using data privacy passports, Secure Boot for Linux, Fiber Channel endpoint security, Hyper Protect encryption services, and secure service container.  The computer is pre-installed Ubuntu 18.04, the latest LTS version of Canonical's operating system. If we want the latest features, always CAN (I do not think it is available to everyone or we all need a team like that) it can be installed Ubuntu 19.04 Disco Dingo or, in just over a month, Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan Ermine.

As for its price, considering the type of equipment we are talking about, neither Canonical nor IBM have mentioned how much this computing monster will cost. Interested parties should contact IBM.
