Lubuntu Next will use Calamares as the official flavor installer

Lubuntu with LXQT

Users of the official Lubuntu flavor are in luck as they recently heard news about future developments in Lubuntu. This has a double meaning since on the one hand they receive news and on the other hand it is known that Lubuntu team goes ahead with distribution and that such a version is still as alive as the rest of the projects.

In this case, as has been usual in recent months, the Lubuntu team has set its sights on Lubuntu Next, the next big change in Lubuntu, and they affirm that the distribution installer will be changed. The official flavor of Lubuntu Next will not have the default Ubuntu installer but will use Calamares for the graphical installation of the light official Ubuntu flavor. Although the bad news is that such an official flavor will not reach our computers until the end of 2018, that is, until the launch of Ubuntu 18.10.

Lubuntu Next will follow the step of Kubuntu and KDE Neon and will change the installer for Calamares

With the upcoming release of Ubuntu Bionic Beaver, we know that there will be a version of Lubuntu with LXDE, a version that will be based on Ubuntu 18.04 and that will have LTS support; and, there will also be an unstable version that will have LXQT as the main desktop but it will not have a three-year support but will have a 9-month support as if it were a normal version.

The development of Lubuntu Next is not being easy and it is having a lot of problems, not only because of the development of LXQT but because of the implementation of the desktop and the Qt libraries in Lubuntu. Still little by little a fairly stable and powerful distribution is being created, although I still very much doubt that it is lighter than the version with LXDE What do you think? Have you already tried Lubuntu Next?
