What is Lumina and how to install it on Ubuntu

Lumina Hair Care

This is not the first time we have discussed it, but if there is one thing in which Linux-based operating systems are superior to all others, it is in their customizability. Changing the entire image of a Linux-based operating system can be just a command away and today we are talking about Lumina Hair Care, light graphical environment designed for use on any Unix-like operating system that relies on the use of plugins and that allows options such as each user using their own custom interface.

As we read in its official website , who are "Lumina was designed to require as few system dependencies and requirements as possible«, Which always comes in handy when we use a team with limited resources. Lumina developers say the best way to test it is by installing the operating system True OSBut can also be installed on Ubuntu and any other Unix-based operating system. In this article we will show you how to install it on Debian-based distributions.

How to install Lumina on Ubuntu

Although I cannot say that the installation of this graphical environment in Ubuntu it is a complicated process, yes I can say that I would like more that it could be installed like other graphical environments like MATE that can be installed with a short command or by selecting a package from the Synaptic package manager. The steps to follow to install it are as follows:

  1. To install Lumina on Ubuntu 14.04 or later or Debian 8 or later, we will open a terminal and type the following (long) command:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install build-essential git qt5-default libqt5gui5 qttools5-dev-tools qtmultimedia5-dev libqt5multimediawidgets5 libqt5network5 libqt5svg5-dev libqt5x11extras5-dev libxcb-icccm4-dev libxcb-ewmh dev libxcb-composite0-dev libxcb-damage0-dev libxcb-util0-dev libphonon-dev libxcomposite-dev libxdamage-dev dev libxrender libxcb-image0-dev libxcb-screensaver0-dev qtdeclarative5-dev fluxbox xscreensaver kde-estilo-oxígeno xbacklight alsa-utils acpi numlockx pavucontrol xterm sysstat
  1. Next, we clone the Lumina source code by typing the following in the terminal:
git clone https://github.com/trueos/lumina.git
  1. The next step is to configure and compile the code by typing the following:
CD lumina
qmake
  1. Finally, we write the following in the terminal:
make
sudo make install

To choose Lumina as the graphical environment, we will have to log out and start it again by selecting the new environment. Personally, I am not in favor of installing graphical environments that can add unnecessary packages to an operating system, so I would also recommend using True OS to test this user interface. In any case and as we always say, if you install it in Ubuntu, do not hesitate to leave your experiences in the comments.

      The correctly written command is:

      sudo apt-get install build-essential git qt5-default libqt5gui5 qttools5-dev-tools qtmultimedia5-dev libqt5multimediawidgets5 libqt5network5 libqt5svg5-dev libqt5x11extras5-dev libxcb-icccm4-dev dev-libxcb-e-libc composite-dev-dev-libxcb-e-libc damage -util0-dev libphonon-dev libxcomposite-dev libxdamage-dev libxrender-dev libxcb-image0-dev libxcb-screensaver0-dev qtdeclarative0-dev fluxbox xscreensaver kde-style-oxygen xbacklight alsa-utils acpi numlockx pavucontrol xterm sysstat
