LXLE 16.04.3, the latest version of a lightweight distribution

LXLE 16.04.3, a new and optimized version

Among the official Ubuntu flavors there are flavors for teams with few resources and official flavors for teams with many resources. However, these flavors are not as successful as the official flavor or as some light distributions.

Although Lubuntu and Xubuntu are very good distributions, it is true that the LXLE distribution is gaining more and more followers and users, even though it is not an unofficial distribution.

The LXLE team has recently released a new version, a version that is based on the latest major Ubuntu LTS update and will therefore be the last version of LXLE that is based on Ubuntu Xenial Xerus.

This new version, LXLE 16.04.3, is not just another update to LXLE but is a new version oriented to computers with few resources, never better said. The new version greatly optimizes the operation of many applications, eliminating some that are not necessary and others that are not oriented to the desktop world.

Thus, the player Pithos has been removed since the last version requires to have a user account of the program; or LXhotkey, which replaces the Obkey Openbox key editor. The gaming sector has also been scaled down, eliminating all non-desktop-oriented games, that is, all console emulators that are difficult to operate via computer controls.

The desks MATE and LXQT have been updated with the latest improvements and fixes. And it has even added programs and components from Linux Mint, another distribution that is based on Ubuntu LTS.

We can get the LXLE 16.04.3 installation image from the official website of the project. If we already have LXLE, we can get the new version through the update commands or the Update and Software application of the distribution. I personally haven't tried this version yet, but many users who have tried it claim that it is the most optimized version of this distribution that exists. I don't know, but for the price of this distribution, it is well worth a try Do not you think?

I installed LXLE on my HP 530, with more than 11 years of use, and now it flies. It came from Windows, but I honestly don't miss it at all.
