Development of the upcoming Linux Mint 18.3 operating system continues, but Clement Lefebvre recently released the monthly report to give us an idea of the new features that will be implemented in the final version.

Last month Linux Mint 18.3 development had kicked off with support for HybridSleep mode in the Cinnamon desktop environment, as well as HiDPI and GTK3 support for the Software Sources tool, AND a new graphics package manager, which was also migrated to the new GTK + 3 technologies.

Now, the creator of Linux Mint revealed that version 18.3 of the operating system will arrive with a new backup tool that will no longer require Root, it will have a simpler interface and you will be able to make backup copies to the entire Home directory, in addition to that it will no longer be necessary to select the type or the source of a copy. On the other hand, this tool will restore the files to their initial location, with the same permissions and date stamps.

However, users will be able to choose which files and folders they want to exclude from the copy. In addition, this tool, called Backup Tool, will not make copies to hidden folders that normally include configuration files for certain apps, but there is the possibility of choosing to copy these folders as well. Finally, you can make copies of the applications installed through the Software Manager.

Another cool feature coming to Linux Mint 18.3 is the animated progress on windows, as there are in many modern operating systems when transferring files or performing similar operations. The progress bars will appear in the windows of Nemo, Backup Tool, Software Manager, Driver Manager and USB managers thanks to a new mechanism implemented through the LibXapp library in the next desktop environment Cinnamon 3.6.

The MATE desktop environment, Caja file manager, and Synaptic package manager will also receive support for displaying progress bars in the future.

Clement Lefebvre also revealed that Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon Edition Coming With Updated Network Applet that you can now re-scan for wireless networks, and that the upload manager and the domain blocker will no longer be installed by default, but will have to be installed from the repositories if necessary.
