Makehuman 1.1.1, create and model 3D humans in Ubuntu

about make human

In the next article we are going to take a look at Makehuman 1.1.1. This is a 3D graphics application for prototyping photorealistic humanoids. It is a free and free program for, in addition to creating human bodies in 3 dimensions, modifying and animating them completely with ease. With it you can add more functionalities to Blender or you can use it separately.

Makehuman facilitates the creation of humanoids in three dimensions, in addition to modifying the entire body or making several thousand different faces. The bodies are formed by a mesh base so it no longer makes use of triangles for the bodies with which we will thus achieve more successful results.

After 12 years of development the Makehuman team released its version 1.0.0. The program is written entirely in Python using OpenGL and Qt, with a architecture completely done with plugins. The scripting language is the one used in ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) since 1996.

The objective of the project has been to develop an application capable of modeling a wide variety of human forms. All of them in the full range of natural poses starting from a simple universal mesh. For this purpose, a 3D humanoid model that can be modified by means of easily modifiable parameters to represent the desired anatomical characters. The initial mesh includes a skeleton structure that will allow us to change the poses of the characters.

- makehuman has developed a model that combines different anatomical parameters to make smooth transitions from young to old, from man to woman, from thin to fat.

MakeHuman General Features

First it must be said that this program it will not require compilation of the code, so it will greatly facilitate the task of installation.

MakeHuman is fully customizable thanks to the support for plugins that it offers us.

The application has been developed using per-vertex animation technology. The initial model presented to us is a standard human.

The program will offer us more than a thousand different morphings for better modeling. Character creation is easy. The parameters that can be configured are intuitive. Among the possibilities offered by the program we can find: age, sex, height, weight, body proportions, face shapes, eyes, nose, mouth, ears, neck, feet, etc.

Each detail can be defined by choosing a percentage. All the details are added one to another to obtain a infinite combination of shapes. With all this we will achieve the creation, in a few clicks, of quite realistic characters, ready to be used in numerous professional graphic applications, such as video games.

Since the first version, this program uses a single mesh, which incorporates feedback from the community and the results of studies and experimentation.

The program has been optimized for subdivision Mudbox y Zbrush. The loops have been optimized for better animations.

You can obtain more information about all the functionalities and requirements of this application from its web page.

Install MakeHuman 1.1.1 on Ubuntu

Install this app for the creating 3D faces and bodies in Ubuntu It is very simple. First we will have to import the key for the repository, then we will add the repository to our list to continue updating the list of available software and to install the program. To perform all these tasks, we will open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and write the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:makehuman-official/makehuman-11x && sudo apt update && sudo apt install makehuman

If you already had this program installed in a previous version as was my case, you will be able to update it In a simple way. You will only have to open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and write the following commands in it:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:makehuman-official/makehuman-11x && sudo apt update

After this last command, makehuman on my computer appeared as a retained package. To finish the update, in the same terminal I just had to write the following:

sudo apt dist-upgrade

Uninstall MakeHuman

To eliminate this program from our system we will have to write the following commands from the terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T):

sudo apt remove makehuman && sudo add-apt-repository -r ppa:makehuman-official/makehuman-11x
