Manage and plan tasks with Planify

Planify is a task management tool.

On this blog we usually review open source productivity applications. Today we will dedicate ourselves to Planify, an application to manage and plan tasks that we can find in both the Snap and Flatpak stores.

In the Ubuntu repositories and in the aforementioned stores there are many applications, some are open source and others are clients for paid cloud services. Although Planify belongs to the first group, it is also compatible with Todoist

What is a to-do list app

A to-do list app is software created to help its users organize and manage the jobs that need to be done. Among its functions are the creation, editing, organization and deletion of tasks in list forms. Additionally, these tasks can be prioritized and given deadlines, as well as classified into groups and projects. To help meet deadlines, you can schedule reminder notifications. They can also be linked with calendar applications.

The advantages of managing and planning tasks with applications like Planify are the following:

  • Best organization: By allowing you to establish priorities and classify pending tasks and set deadlines, they make it possible to have a clear vision of obligations and times.
  • Productivity increase: The categorization and clarification of pending tasks makes it possible to better manage work time.
  • Stress Reduction: By recording everything we have to do, we reduce the worry of not forgetting anything.
  • Better performance: By having a record of the expected deadlines and their compliance, you can determine better ways to get the job done.

Manage and plan tasks with Planify

In Planify we have four tabs:

  • Inbox: It is where task lists are created.
  • Today: Where the tasks of the day are shown and others can be assigned to perform during the day.
  • Planner: We can view tasks by dates or add a task on a specific date.
  • Tags: In this section we can see the tags available to assign to a project and create new ones.

Using Planify

The first step to using the application is to create a project. To do this we must click on the + sign next to the phrase On this computer. In addition to the name, it is possible to identify it by a color or an emoticon. Once the project has tasks assigned it can be copied to the clipboard or emailed.

Once the project is created, we create the tasks by clicking on the big + sign light blue at the bottom right. If we have several tasks and we want to add one to a part of the project, we move the light blue button to the desired position and press.

To create a task, we assign it a name and if we want a description, priority, a date and a reminder. You can also assign labels. Once the task is created, a file can be attached to it. Each task can be divided into subtasks. By clicking on the schedule button we determine the completion date.

We can alter the order of the tasks by dragging them to the desired position.

To synchronize tasks we can use the aforementioned Todoist account or through CalDav, an open Internet-based protocol that allows sharing calendar information. It is used among others by Mozilla Thunderbird, Nextcloud and Google Calendar.
