MATE 1.16 now available for download and installation

Ubuntu MATE 16.04

If you use a system with a graphical MATE environment, like Ubuntu 16.04 and later, you have probably been waiting launch of MATE 1.16. Well, the wait has come to an end: MATE 1.16 is now available for download and installation, which in my opinion is mainly interesting for the Ubuntu flavor that uses the graphical environment that Canonical used until the release of Unity. I'm talking, of course, about Ubuntu MATE.

Martin Wimpress and his team have updated the repository containing the MATE graphical environment packages to Ubuntu LTS 16.04 (Xenial Xerus), the first version long term support o LTS of an Ubuntu flavor that became official in April 2015, coinciding with the Vivid Vervet brand of the operating system developed by Canonical. Ubuntu MATE users who want to install the new version of this classic graphical environment will only have to execute the commands that we provide below.

How to install MATE 1.16 on Ubuntu MATE 16.04+

Users who want to install MATE 1.16 right now, we will only have to execute the following commands:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-mate-dev/xenial-mate -y
sudo apt update
sudo apt full-upgrade

To ensure compatibility with the rest of the GTK + 2 packages used by Ubuntu MATE 16.04 and many of the third-party MATE applets, extensions and plugins, most of the MATE 1.16 packages contained in this repository are built without the GTK + 2 toolkit. , some of them having moved to GTK + 3. Among these packages, we have the Engrampa filer, MATE Terminal terminal emulator, MATE Notification Daemon, MATE Session Manager, and MATE PolKit. It is important to mention that the packages matt-netspeed will be removed during installation, but we won't miss them because the package mate-applets also includes applet NetSpeed.

As always, if you install the new version of MATE, do not hesitate to leave your experiences in the comments.

Nowadays it is quite stable, and since they have improved several things that failed in the previous version, and anyway you have to give it a little time to settle, and it is like the others will always have something that failed, and but meets expectations.

I have downloaded it and it is perfect, every day it has more software and drivers that destabilizes the whole, but I see it quite stable and great,

I love this Ubuntu version ...
