MATE Tweak, an important tool for Ubuntu MATE

MATTE Tweak

A few days ago I decided to clean up my computer and install the latest version of Ubuntu, something I hadn't done yet. After installing it, I felt the need to try something, so I installed MATE as the main desktop and I was again faced with a familiar old and old interface.

But you have to be realistic, it is not the same as the old Ubuntu, there are things that have changed, such as the position of the window buttons. So looking through my notes, searching the Net, I didn't find anything until I came across MATE Tweak, a great program essential if we have MATE.

MATE Tweak installation and configuration

The installation of MATE Tweak is simple, it is found in the repositories so with opening the terminal and typing

sudo apt-get install mate-tweak

The installation will begin and after a few seconds the program will be installed.

MATE Tweak works like Ubuntu Tweak but with fewer optionsI mean, the same thing we do with MATE Tweak we can do it by hand but it is more messy and complicated, while with the tool it is faster and easier.

Once we open MATE Tweak we have three icons in the left corner: Desktop, Windows and Interface. In Desktop we see the elements that we want to appear, such as the Trash, My Pc, Files, etc ... for those who come from Windows, it is a useful change although I will not use it on my computer for now.

Windows allows us to modify specific aspects, such as the position of the minimize, maximize and close buttons found in the appearance subsection, when to run Compiz and which Window Manager to use with MATE, in my case I have left Marco, but we can use other as long ago we explained in this tutorial. In Interface we can find elements to modify such as the size of the icons or the type of panel to use in MATE, that is, whether to add two panels (an upper one with the menu and a lower one) or simply a lower panel as in Cinnamon. As I like the previous appearance of Ubuntu more than Cinnamon, I leave two panels.

As you can see, the configuration is simple and simple, it does not require being an expert and we can do great things with this program, although not all that we would like to do as it happens with Ubuntu Tweak, but time to time, that MATE Tweak only has a few months of life.

Hello. Can you tell me where you save the Mate-Tweak desktop settings in Ubuntu Mate so that I can have a backup in case I change distribution or reinstall? Greetings.
