Meet Nitrux, a beautiful Ubuntu-based Linux distribution

Nitrox

Hello guys, excellent day, today in this article we will take the opportunity to take a look at Nitrux, this Ubuntu-based Linux distribution With an excellent design and I bet that more than one will make you want to try it.

Nitrox It comes with its Nomad desktop environment which is built on KDE Plasma 5 and QTNomad takes the best of this environment to present a visually appealing desktop, which personally reminds me quite of Pantheon.

The distribution also takes some KDE applications and makes use of the appimage application format with which it happens to differ a lot from other Ubuntu-based distributions.

This is the interesting thing about Nitrux, because its developers venture to offer the user something new and that without a doubt from my perspective and many distributions should begin to offer.

Nomad Desktop

The Nomad desk improves the user experience, as it includes other additional functions which make it more functional, since its objective is to be adaptable without losing its aesthetics or functionality.

Nitrux developers have well planned their objective because they do not focus on a single sector of users, they intend through Nomad Desktop to capture both newcomers and more advanced users, thanks to its flexibility.

Nomad-desktop

On the other hand Nitrux like most Linux distributions has a software center. Which was built from scratch in order to have a better integration with QT desktops.

Unlike other distros with their software centers, Nitrux does not search for applications within official repositories as you might expect, if not thanks to the fact that it was built from scratch, this allow you to find, install and manage AppImage applications.

Since the developers argue that this type of format is faster to install, easier to create and safer to run.

AppImages aim to work on any distribution or device, from IoT devices to servers, desktops to mobile devices.

The Nomad Software Center focuses on new application distribution technologies and aims to make it easier for the user to navigate, test and install applications and update without fear of disastrous results. Installing an app is easy! When you have found the application you want, simply click the "Get" button and it will begin downloading and installing.

In addition, together with Nomad we found the following package of programs that make up the distro:

  • Dolphin, file manager.
  • Kate, advanced text editor.
  • Ark, compression tool.
  • Konsole, terminal emulator.
  • Chromium, web browser.
  • Babe, music player.
  • VLC, media player.
  • ONLYOFFICE, a collaborative office automation suite.

It is also important to know that the requirements to use this distro must be taken into account, as they are the following:

Minimum requirements to use Nitrux:

  • 2.5 GHz Dual Core 64-bit CPU
  • RAM 2GB
  • Disk space 5.0GB
  • 32MB VRAM OpenGL 2.1 Support

Nitrux has a cooler version

Finally and without leaving aside, the distribution has been updated a few hours ago, Whereby reaches version 1.0.10 in which it has updated some of its tools and added some new improvements to the system.

Within the updates the Linux Kernel has been updated which in This version 1.0.10 will default to Kernel 4.15.14.

The software center has also been updated as well as the KDE Plasma version 5.12.80 which is taken as the basis for Nomad.

KDE applications use version 18.07.70 and support for VMware has also been added.

Finally added a tool for the integration of appimages, character support for Chinese and Japanese languages, EFI mode support was also added.
