Minecraft is finally coming to Ubuntu but the release date is unknown

Minecraft Scenario

One of the most popular and famous games of the moment, Minecraft, will finally arrive on Ubuntu (and without using Wine). In this case we are not talking about a fork or a pirated version of Minecraft but about an original game that can be installed on Ubuntu or any other Gnu / Linux distribution.

In this case we are talking about minecraft: storymode, a version of the famous video game that is already available for other platforms and that seems to will finally be on Gnu / Linux.

Currently there are original versions of the Minecraft game for almost all platforms, being those related to Linux (with the exception of Android) that do not yet have an official version. There are games that are forks or non-original copies that we can use in our Ubuntu. In this article We talked a long time ago about the possible alternatives that exist to play Minecraft in Ubuntu.

The surprising thing about it all is that the company that owns Minecraft is Microsoft, which processes a great "love" for Gnu / Linux and Ubuntu, or so it says. At the moment, we only know from developer David Brady that the version of Minecraft: Story Mode was ready to be released for the Penguin platform, but it was not made.

The release date remains unknown but now that this information has been released, it may be that Microsoft is encouraged to release this version to the general public. Another option that exists to have a version of Minecraft is to use the Wine or PlayOnLinux emulator that will allow us to use the final version for Windows on our Ubuntu computer.

Personally I think that if we want Ubuntu (and Linux) to be a success on the Desktop, we have to have more programs and less advertising. In this regard, Microsoft instead of shouting its love for Ubuntu or incorporating its bash, should release popular programs and tools like Minecraft, Microsoft Word or Internet Explorer. Surely many more would use Ubuntu and some would even pay to have these programs in Ubuntu Do not you think?
