Multi-Account Containers: How to Keep Multiple Sessions Open in the Same Browser

Multi-Account Containers for Firefox

Who has only one account for each service? For example, I have three from Twitter, two from Gmail and another two from YouTube. If we want to have several Twitter sessions open we will have to use programs like French o RamboxBut Rambox is resource intensive and Franz doesn't support Twitter Lite notifications, for example. We will get the full experience of the web-apps in a modern and updated browser, but by default we cannot use more than one account per service without logging out and re-entering. Multi Account Containers It has been created with this in mind.

Multi-Account Containers is a Firefox extension that will allow us to open a tab isolated from the rest of the processes. This means that, when we open it, it will not take into account that we are already in a service, so it will ask us to enter. So we can do it in up to 4 different tabs, which will allow us to have up to 4 Twitter, WhatsApp, Telegram accounts or whatever we want running at the same time and in the same browser.

Multi-Accounts Containers: 4 accounts, one browser

The first thing we will have to do to be able to use more than one account per service in Firefox is to install the extension, available at this link. Once installed, press and hold on the + to add a tab a menu will appear in which we can choose what that new tab is for. I now have three: Personal, Work and Leisure, plus a fourth that I have not edited. I use a third one on Twitter, while in other services I only add one (the other one I open as I always have).

Add tab in Multi-Account Container

What do we get by using Multi-Accounts Containers? Well the following:

  • Save time when logging out and logging in. If we add a Twitter account to "Work", whenever we open a new "Work" tab, it will enter that account.
  • To be able to use services like Twitter Lite with the native Push notifications of Firefox.
  • That when entering YouTube, for example, we do not do it with the wrong account, which will cause it to show us suggestions that do not interest us (we would have entered for work). Same with Google Drive and all web services.
  • Personally, forget about Franz, Rambox, Wavebox or other applications that I used to be able to have more than one account for each service. Now I do it all in a Firefox window.

What do you think of this extension to have up to 4 accounts of the same service in the same browser?

Firefox allows you to have several different profiles. I have five different profiles with different security settings, extensions, proxy, etc. With each session I can enter different accounts on the same site, in a similar way to the one described for the extension.

To configure several profiles, we enter from the terminal with the command «firefox -p –no-remote».
