Nautilus offers by default a list of recently accessed documents, which is extremely useful under what circumstances. The bad thing is that this list cannot be deleted, at least not in a simple way, which puts our Privacy.
Luckily the list of recent documents can be deactivated, although a configuration file will have to be manually edited. It is what has not wanting to fill the user with options.
To deactivate the list of recently opened documents we have to edit the file settings. ini located on the route:
$HOME/.config/gtk-3.0
We can do it through GNU nano by executing:
sudo nano $HOME/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini
And adding -or editing failing that- below the section [Settings] the lines:
gtk-recent-files-max-age=0 gtk-recent-files-limit=0
After saving the document (Ctrl + O), it would look like this:
[Settings] gtk-recent-files-max-age=0 gtk-recent-files-limit=0
With this we order that no file is saved in the list. For the changes to take effect we will have to close our session and start it again.
If we do not want to deactivate the option but simply regularly delete recently accessed files we can then make use of BleachBit, an application with which we can also delete other unnecessary things to free up a little space in our system.
