New major Ubuntu kernel update for security. Update

Ubuntu kernel updated for security

A few hours ago, Canonical has updated Ubuntu kernel and all its official flavors. At the time of releasing an update to its core, the company that runs Mark Shuttleworth does not explain why, but soon after it usually publishes a security report that tells us what they have fixed. This time they have not published one, but a total of 4 + 1, since the USN-4211-2 is the same as him USN-4211-1, but for Ubuntu 14.04 ESM.

Considering that there are four (plus one) security reports and that there are vulnerabilities shared between them, it is difficult to say exactly how many security flaws these updates have corrected, but we can say that the report USN-4208-1, the one that contains the most, tells us about a total of 12 vulnerabilities. Of all of them, 4 are of medium priority, while the remaining 8 are of low or no priority. Most of them need local access to be exploited. They have also published the reports USN-4209-1 y USN-4210-1.

Updated kernel for all supported Ubuntu versions

The systems affected by the vulnerabilities fixed with the new kernel versions are all Ubuntu versions that still enjoy official support and Ubuntu 14.04, in this case because it is in the ESM phase. So, we are talking about Ubuntu 19.10, Ubuntu 19.04, Ubuntu 18.04, and Ubuntu 16.04. Neither Ubuntu 12.04 ESM nor Ubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa is mentioned, the operating system that will be released on April 23 and is currently under development.

Installing the new versions is as simple as opening the Software Update application or our X-Buntu software center and installing the packages that are waiting for us since yesterday. For the changes to take effect, we must restart the operating system, as long as we are not using an LTS version and we have the Live Patch option activated. Although no vulnerability is serious, update as soon as you can for what may happen.
