The Nexus 5 is already compatible with the UBPorts project and its developments

Nexus 5

A few weeks ago, the leader of the UBPorts project, Marius Gripsgard, presented us with a new update to Ubuntu Touch that made the operating system integrate into the UBPorts project. This update was valid for all mobiles with Ubuntu Phone except Google devices, the famous Nexus mobiles.

Marius claimed that days later this update would arrive on the Nexus. Well, yesterday afternoon, via Twitter, UBPorts has reported that the new Ubuntu Phone OTA is available for the Nexus 5.

This new update will be the first of many to come for the Google device. However, the interest of the project during these days he has been in the Halium Project and in its development. Apparently this project will be the future of many mobile operating systems.

BQ devices will not receive the new version of Ubuntu Phone but the Nexus 5

A future that will make these operating systems work on Motorola, Sony, Samsung and Nexus devices, among others. Apparently, the project is already compatible with the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 3, and a new version of Ubuntu Phone for these devices will be available in a few months.

UBPorts is also working on updating the Ubuntu Phone base. As many of you know, Ubuntu Phone is based on Ubuntu 15.04, a slightly old version considering that Ubuntu 17.10 will be released in three months; Nevertheless, the new version will not be available for all mobile models with Ubuntu Phone.

As confirmed by Marius Gripsgard, the BQ mobiles and the Meizu MX4 will not be compatible with this new version and therefore will not have this version. But this does not mean that these mobiles are forgotten but that they will no longer have the latest operating system. What many other mobile systems have as well and is known as fragmentation. In any case, it seems that Ubuntu Phone is more alive than ever Do not you think?

Well, I am afraid that I will possibly root my BQ AQUARIS E5 again. I thought I could give UBports a chance, but if they leave the BQs relegated to a simple "legacy" base, it gives me that the second root of my terminal will go to Google's side. And look, it's my main operating system at home, but I'm getting tired of going "forever alone" with my "early-adopter phone" and eating what I've eaten ...
