In the next article we are going to take a look at Ninslash. It's about a free 2D survival game based on another game called teeworlds. Ninslash saw its first release in August 2016, although development of the game currently seems to have stalled a bit. But with the built-in level editor, we can always have new content.
It is a frenetic multiplayer survival game, in which we can join a public server or run our own LAN server. When we start the game, we will find a couple of public servers configured for the 'invasion mode', although we can configure other available game modes.
In invasion mode, users find themselves on a randomly generated map. In the game we will also find a good variety of weapons, as well as we will also find many interesting objects such as flame traps, conveyor belts and many others, which will make the game much more lively. We will find support for 64 players (with a maximum of 16 for invasion mode).
In the configuration we will find available a good amount of options to customize the game. Controls can be customized for the movement of characters, weapons, objects, or the character's own body. Ninslash also offers support for a wide range of languages.
Game modes
We will be able to find a total of seven game modes available. To test these game modes, you need to use the option available from the menu. This is accessed by pressing the key I. The game modes are as follows:
- Deathmatch → This game mode consists of the same as any typical deathmatch game. Basically the goal is to kill as many players as possible, until a certain condition or time limit is reached. In Ninslash, the winner will be the user who kills the most rivals.
- Team Deathmatch → It is the same game mode as Deathmatch, except that Players now fight in 2 teams and seek a higher combined kill score than that of the rival group. This game mode gives you a configurable amount of bots to participate in.
- Invasion (1-4 player cooperative mode) → The invasion is cooperative gameplay. You can play alone or as a team.
- Capture the Flag → It is a traditional game mode, where each of the teams has a flag and the objective is to capture the other team's flag.
- Reactor Defense → In this mode, you have a reactor. Protect it from the enemy at all costs!
- ball → This game mode is a 1 on 1 battle where the objective is simple, kick the ball or move it with your body and score goals against your opponent. There are 3 maps available for this mode.
- Battle Royale→ It's a pretty fun game mode in which you have to avoid acid at all costs. You must fight to get to the top (away from the acid) and be the surviving player.
Download Ninslash
Being an open source game, we will have full and unrestricted access to source code. This will give us the option to compile the source code, although we can also use the binary available on the project's website, instead of compiling the source code. The game is written in C ++ and Python.
As I was saying, the developer provides binaries for Gnu / Linux, Android, Mac OS and Windows on the project website. Once downloaded and unzipped, we just have to click on the file properties «ninslash«. In the permissions tab we will find a checkbox to mark and «Allow to run the file as a program«. So we can launch the game by double clicking on this file.
If you like dynamic survival shooters, you will find Ninslash very entertaining. It's a fun game with good attention to detail in many areas. He's fast and relentless, so be prepared to lose your life often.
