Cinnamon 3.4 Desktop Environment

Cinnamon 3.4 Desktop Environment

If you have been waiting for updates for the Cinnamon desktop environment, we inform you that today the stable version Cinnamon 3.4 is available.

Cinnamon 3.4 is a massive version, which is why there was no official announcement on Clement Lefebvre's blog at the time of its release, but all release notes are already available together with the tarball file.

More than 160 changes are currently included in Cinnamon 3.4.0 but, as usual, there will be some bug fixes before Cinnamon 3.4 reaches the stable channels of various GNU / Linux distributions, including Linux Mint. Speaking of Linux Mint, the next version Linux Mint 18.2 "Sonya" will also come with Cinnamon 3.4.

Main new features of Cinnamon 3.4

Here we have compiled some of the main novelties of the Cinnamon 3.4 desktop environment:

  • Cinnamon-stap-monitor tool
  • The side panel will be hidden more effectively
  • The ability to handle various systemd services present in the operating system
  • "Run now" button when selecting a row in the Cinnamon Settings module to manage your startup applications
  • Applets that do not offer vertical panel support will no longer be displayed
  • Support for lightdm-settings in Cinnamong Settings, to configure the LightDM session manager
  • Support for the Manjaro operating system in System Information
  • New option to control mouse acceleration and sensitivity
  • Critical notifications are now presented in full screen
  • New mouse cursors in the Menu applet
  • Multiple issues fixed.

Cinnamon is an open source project that provides a complete desktop environment for GNU / Linux operating systems. Is a derived from the interface GNOME-Shell and was designed from the ground up to provide a modern and advanced graphic session. Normally it comes with Linux Mint by default, although it can be installed in other distributions without problems, directly from the software repositories.
