Ubuntu Touch OTA-4 RC now available

UBports Ubuntu Touch OTA-4

We haven't talked or heard from news about the mobile version of Ubuntu for a long time, but that does not mean that it has stopped or that the project is dead, far from it. The UBPorts team has recently released the first Ubuntu Touch OTA-4 RC. This version will be a great change for the operating system as it includes great improvements that many users and developers have been asking for a long time.

The great improvement of all of them is the change of base. So far Ubuntu Touch was based on Ubuntu 15.04, a version more than three years old. The new Ubuntu Touch OTA-4 will be based on Ubuntu 16.04, the penultimate version of Ubuntu LTS that is fully tested and updated. Something important when building software.

The other great novelty that is announced with the arrival of Ubuntu Touch OTA-4 is the speed of the version, a speed that is due to the suppression of a lag that existed in previous versions and that made it always take two or three seconds longer than normal to run an app.

This lag has been suppressed in the new OTA so the version is the fastest of all. The aesthetics of several apps have also been remodeled and the phone dialing app has also been stylized. This app will also be included in tablet versions making calls possible from this operating system for tablets.

At the moment Ubuntu Touch OTA-4 is in its RC version but in a short time the final version will be released and that will mean an update for users of devices with Ubuntu Touch, but not for everyone. For the moment It will only reach users using Ubuntu Touch OTA-3.

Something that could be logical for users of other operating systems but not so logical for Ubuntu Touch users since not all use Ubuntu Touch from UBPorts. But it is something that from here we highly recommend, that is, to pass our operating system and our Ubuntu Phone to this development that is having so much success and affection.

Excellent, I look forward to this operating system. However, many developers do not pay much attention to it without knowing that it is something worth creating for.
Congratulations to the little team that is making this possible :).
