Now available WPS Office for Linux 2016, the alternative to LibreOffice

WPS Office

LibreOffice, the Ubuntu office suite will have a new version at the end of this summer, but while this big update arrives, either we are content with the current version or we try other equally good and effective alternatives such as WPS Office for Linux.

This office suite that is credited as the free alternative to Microsoft formats, has recently released a new version with some improvements. Enhancements that are not only limited to bug fixes but also add new and improved functions.

WPS Office for Linux 2016 brings a new search function that will allow us to search for words or data between documents, an interesting function that will help us create more accurate and complete office documents and files, helping productivity. The user interface has also changed somewhat in order to make the environment more productive for users.

The web links of our documents already will be available in the documents that we export to pdf format, Links that were not active before and now we will have them active in the pdf if we want to. The predefined images or thumbnails of WPS Presentation have also been optimized working better and offering greater use compared to previous versions.

Also new in WPS Office for Linux 2016 is support for cloud services. Now we can connect our WPS Office with services such as OneDrive or Dropbox to edit and save documents directly in the cloud services without stopping using WPS Office for Linux.

The new version of WPS Office for Linux 2016 is now available on the following link. There we will not only find the deb package of the version to install in Ubuntu but we will also find the rpm format to install in other distributions and even the tar format to compile it ourselves.

I use it and it is actually much better than free office since this office if it respects Microsoft Office formats as I think it is the most exact clone you can exchange files from one office to another in a transparent way you see almost no difference and in free office is a mess to open a file and see that it does not respect margins, the macros do not work, the formulas do not either. I recommend a thousand times WPS

It is true but they have to fix the spell checker, it is a bit annoying to download it from the page and install it

If it is the only detail you have and sometimes the corrector does not look good from there on out I still cannot find a bigger detail

I remember it was very good, but it came in Chinese and it was hard to change the language ... I'll try it again

WPS is from a CHINESE company for that reason but they have improved a lot and they took a huge leap

Changing the language is now very simple and without downloading anything.

Linux support was on hiatus from last year (probably already abandoned). Since it stayed in its Alpha version, although it is speculated that support can be resumed ...

But here they say today that there is no such update, that everything is a lie from the people of WPS ...

Being very picky, it is not the free alternative, it is the free alternative. And as they say, their support has been discontinued, it is supposed to be temporarily

I downloaded it on my turn ✌️✌️

But is it compatible with Libre Office .ODT, .ODS and .ODP files?

I really like WPS, I find it aesthetically superior to Libreoffice, but I can't do a mail merge in WPS, while Libre Office can do it and it even comes with a wizard that helps me do it.
And the free Office spell checker comes ready.
