Nylas email client is free again

nylas

nylas, the versatile email client is back in the news as it resumes its free license, although suffering a name change in the process.

Formerly known by the name of Nylas N1, the application has become open-source and releases a new icon and name for the free and common license that will surely be more than enough for the vast majority of users.

nylas N1, which was what this well-known app used to be called, started out as a free email client which in 2016 changed its type of license to professional accounts. Today however, it is once again free for general users through Nylas Basic and leaves the option to switch to the professional version free for those who require it.

The basic version of Nylas provides a good number of functions which are probably sufficient for most general users. To highlight among them are the following:

  • Multiple email accounts
  • Unified email inboxes
  • Undo shipments of mail
  • Quick reply email templates
  • Authors
  • Grammar checker
  • Quick search of words

The paid version of Nylas also provides other functions as the ability to store our emails on external servers, an unlimited number of announcements and alarm delays, post tracking or message merging, among others.

An interesting feature that Nylas N1 did offer before was the sync via Nylas Cloud Sync to your own server. Although we could deploy our own infrastructure to provide email service, it was preferable to use the solution provided by the application as it was much simpler and more direct. Furthermore, it was possible to develop plugins with which to improve the software thanks to the API that it included.

The new Nylas Basic employs a backend hybrid that connects directly with the Gmail and / or Yahoo platform to subsequently manage each of the functions. This solution provides an increase in application performance of up to 20 times compared to the previous version.

The Linux version will be available alongside the Windows version in a week or two if there are no delays.
