Plasma 5.16 officially released, arrives with new notifications and much more

Plasma 5.16 Now Available

Personally, I was looking forward to this moment. Today is June 11, the date marked on the calendar for the arrival of plasma 5.16. Your launch it's official but we will still have to have a little more patience if we do not want to install from your code. Among the most outstanding novelties, there is one that is at least for users who are experiencing a problem when waking up the operating system after a suspension: this version corrects this failure that owners of a computer with a graphics card can experience NVIDIA.

Another of the most outstanding novelties is a new notification system about which we already wrote one month ago. These notifications will look better while making more sense than those on Plasma 5.15 and earlier. In addition, it includes a Do Not Disturb mode that will prevent the system from notifying us when we are focused on a job. On the other hand, the history has also been redesigned, which will make it easier to understand everything we have received.

Other notable changes included in this version are:

  • Dolphin will open the new requests in tabs. Until now it did it in new windows, which cluttered our desktop.
  • Discover has been redesigned for a cleaner, sharper image.
  • Discover downloads and installations are shown in separate sections.
  • Security changes have been added to protect our data.
  • New wallpaper, which is the winner of the first ever KDE wallpaper contest.

As we've mentioned before, Plasma 5.16 is out now, but not if we don't want to fiddle with its code. Those of us who want to perform a simple installation will still have to wait a few days and to see the update it will be necessary to install the KDE Backports repository. Stop this, just open a terminal and write the following:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports

No need to wait. While writing this article I missed the update. PLASMA 5.16 IS NOW AVAILABLE. Let's enjoy it!

Excellent news, very good post. So to update in Kubuntu is only to add the repository that you put and do an upgrade? Or do you have to do something else? Thanks for the info bro
