OpenShot is a popular free video editor open source programmed in Python, GTK and the MLT framework, created with the goal of being easy to use. Available in different operating systems such as Linux, Windows and Mac. It also has support for high resolution videos and various video formats, audio and still image.

OpenShot allows us to edit our videos, photos and music files and be able to edit them at will for the creation of videos and with a simple interface that allows us to easily load subtitles, transitions and effects, for later export to DVD, YouTube, Vimeo, Xbox 360 and many other common formats.

Normally it takes a few months for there to be a new version but a few days ago it arrived with its new version Open Shot 2.3.3. Fixing several serious stability bugs to its previous version.

Among the most important changes in this new version are new versions of openshot-qt and its dependency libopenshot dependence to the 3D animated title of Spacemovie and various timeline errors.

Bugs fixed in OpenShot 2.3.3

Among the main bugs fixed in this version are:

  • Errors with the list of supported languages.
  • Correction to the error that arises when selecting the effect of a clip.
  • Another attempt to fix the condition causing the «zipimport.ZipImportError: can't decompress data; zlib not available»When starting a frozen version of OpenShot.
  • Removed NVidia AppImage drivers on build server.
  • Updated translations and improved translation test script (which validates all string replacements found in translations).

How to install OpenShot on Ubuntu 17.04

We can install OpenShot 2.3.3 from its official repository that offers us the most stable versions and we can install it in Ubuntu 16.04 and later by typing these commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:openshot.developers/ppa
sudo apt-get update 
sudo apt-get install openshot-qt

Once the application is installed, its icon will appear in the unity dashboard.

    all very nice but hangs hangs and hangs ... when will we know why?
    I have stopped using it and I have switched to pitivi although I liked openshot more (if it weren't for this error) I would still use it) but I can't edit for 2 minutes that it hangs

    It does not allow me to add videos, to create an edited video. I have tried different formats: avi, mov, mp4 ... but it does not load them.
    However, the audios do upload them to me.
    What is the problem?
