OpenTodoList: the open source option for jotting down to-dos

OpenTodoList

As an acquaintance said repeatedly, "a small pencil is better than a large memory." That is a great truth, but nowadays paper and pencil are hardly used to write things. Currently we write down our pending tasks in applications available on mobile devices or others such as OpenTodoList, an open source application available for Linux that will help us to leave nothing to do.

Also available for Android from Google Play, OpenTodoList has (almost) everything we need to write down our pending tasks. The most visible absence, at least at the time of writing this article, is that it is not in Spanish. Once the language barrier has been overcome, the application does offer us a synchronization that we can obtain by configuring our NextCloud, ownCloud or WebDAV account. Logically, we can also save our pending tasks locally, that is, without configuring any cloud services. This will be the best option if we do not use OpenTodoList on another computer or on our Android device.

OpenTodoList is also available for Android

Once our cloud is chosen or if we want to save the reminders locally, we will create a library adding a name to it, for example "Work". To create a new reminder, we will click on the circle in the lower right that has the addition symbol (+) inside. Here we can choose if we want to create a note, a list or add an image. We can edit each reminder by adding attachments, notes, etc, and setting a date. What I may miss here is that, in addition to the day, you can also add an hour.

Changes included in the latest version

  • Now we can reorder the items in a library by dragging and dropping. This allows us to easily put the items we use the most at the top of the lists.
  • Now we can modify a progress value.

To install OpenTodoList just go to your download page and download the version for our operating system. For Linux it is available in two versions: AppImage that we download from the previous link or the Flatpak version that you can access from here. How about OpenTodoList?
