OpenTomb, a free Tomb Raider for our Ubuntu

tomb raider

A year ago we learned about the availability of Tomb Raider and Lara Croft for Ubuntu. This was achieved thanks to the Steam platform, a platform that has made many video games reach Ubuntu.

However, video game developers are making great achievements in the field of video games for Ubuntu. Thus, recently, it has been announced the availability of a free fork of Tomb Raider. This video game is called OpenTomb.

OpenTomb is a free video game that we can download and use in Ubuntu or any other Gnu / Linux platform. The video game uses its own engine that has captured parts and codes from other engines but has tried to make everything like Tomb Raider video games and Lara Croft, which allows us to play the same scenarios that dazzled so many adventure game lovers years ago.

However, OpenTomb will have new elements and a new tool called OpenTomb Level Editor, a tool that will allow us to create our own levels and share them with other players.

OpenTomb despite its differences from the original video game, its installation is not very different. It's more, In order to install and play this video game, the user will need an original video game to work. As with many other classics, the licenses for the first Tomb Raider video games are no longer copyrighted and can be copied.

This makes many developers take advantage of the original video games for installation on Ubuntu. OpenTomb is not the first case, we already knew at the time equal versions of games like Caesar III, Dungeon Keeper or Age Of Empires. Versions that I personally don't like but that can be used by the most gamer users. In any case, if you have an original Tomb Raider game and you want to try OpenTomb, in this github repository You will find the necessary files and the steps to install the game.
