Ubuntu Touch's OTA-11 arrives with a more natural text management

Ubuntu Touch OTA-11

Less than a week ago, Canonical released Ubuntu 19.10, the latest version of its desktop operating system that came under the codename Eoan Ermine. Although we mentioned "desktop", we could have left it in "operating system", since it has long since left the Ubuntu Touch project. But the touch version of Ubuntu keeps going and UBports launched a few minutes ago the OTA-11 of the mobile operating system that it picked up when the company that Mark Shuttleworth runs decided to put it aside.

This new release comes just two weeks after the launch of the trial version and two months after the launch of the OTA-10. Initially, UBports intended this to be a small release, including only what was not prepared for the OTA-10 August, but in the end the update is not as small as they expected. Below you have a list of the most outstanding news.

Highlights of Ubuntu Touch OTA-11

  • Smarter keyboard. With this release, a new way to edit text from the keyboard is available, something they have called Advanced Text Functions. Now you can move around written text for redo and undo, you can create a rectangle over the text and use it to cut, copy or paste, all from the same interface. Changes may be made in the future to help users discover this feature.
  • Morph web browser enhancements, which includes 4.000 lines of code to include the Domain Permissions model. This will allow us to save the zoom level by pages, allow once or always access to the web location, put web pages in black lists and add support to links such as tel: //.
  • Push notifications without having an Ubuntu One account.
  • Support for new devices, such as those that initially came out with Android 7.1.
  • Improved audio support, especially for calls.
  • Fixed issue on Nexus 5 that could cause Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to hang from time to time using a lot of CPU and battery.
  • Improvements in MMS messages.

OTA-11 now available for all supported Ubuntu Touch devices from the updates section.
