Phones with Ubuntu Touch receive Bluetooth call support

oneplus one ubuntu

The Ubuntu editions of the phones Oneplus One and Fairphone 2 receive this new functionality that will allow them to use Bluetooth devices for conversations during calls. This function will extend later towards other terminals such as the OnePlus 2 and OnePlus 3 and the Nexus 5X and it will be maintained with the collaboration of other companies.

This project has been carried out through the work carried out in ubports, created by Marius Gripsgård, in an attempt to bring the Ubuntu Touch system to as many terminals as possible. In it, in addition to supporting the terminals that we have mentioned, its peripherals and those of the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 and the OnePlus X, among others, have been included.

More and more devices are supporting Canonical's mobile operating system. At the moment, Ubuntu Touch is able to run, thanks to the Gripsgård project, on the terminals OnePlus One, OnePlus X, Nexus 5 and Fairphone 2. They Nexus 6 and Nexus 8 the system is able to initiate boot, but not able to run the graphical user environment.

Of the devices that we have mentioned, the first are the ones that are receiving the most support and this is evident in the improvements they receive and their peripherals. In addition to including support to make calls through their handset Bluetooth, have been carried out multiple improvements in the support of its componentssuch as voice calls, the sound system or Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

The latest version of Ubport that they are running is 5.1, which is Corresponds to Android 5.1 Lollipop system base. At the moment there are still improvements to be carried out in this system, such as the support of the GPS or the camera in both the OnePlus One and the Fairphone 2. The good news is that the improvements are expected to be incorporated very soon through e an OTA update for all these terminals that will arrive in about two weeks.
