In the next article we are going to take a look at PhotoFilmStrip. This program will allow users create video clips from images in very few steps. First we will select the images, then we will customize the movement path and to finish we will only have to render the video. It is that simple to use. In the program we will find several output options for video with different qualities; VCD, SVCD, DVD and FULL-HD among others. We will also find some effects that we can add, the possibility of adding subtitles, without forgetting the option of adding audio files to the resulting video.
PhotoFilmStrip General Features
- La user interface is simple. With it the user will be able to do important things, such as customizing the slide show in a simple way.
- On the left side of the program interface, the user will be able to establish the starting point of the movement. The end point of the movement can be set on the right side. In the center we will see the tool buttons that give access to the necessary functions to customize movement path.
- In the lower area all the images that we are going to use are listed. This list supports images to insert, delete and move. Just above we will find the settings for the selected image.
- The project properties dialog allows you to configure the aspect ratio and a audio file for background music.
- There is an option for specify the total duration of the slideshow. Either by a custom value or by the length of the chosen audio file.
- We will be able to add captions to images.
- We will have the possibility to use different video output.
- We will have image effects like 'black and white' and sepia.
- We will find different quality settings for each output rendering option when creating the final video.
Install PhotoFilmStrip on Ubuntu
For users of Debian, Ubuntu and systems derived from these, we will be able to download a .deb package of the application, which makes installation easier. This package we will be able to download it either from your web page at sourceforge or writing in a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) the following command:
wget https://cytranet.dl.sourceforge.net/project/photostoryx/photofilmstrip/3.7.0/photofilmstrip_3.7.0-1_all.deb -O photofilmstrip.deb
Once the download is finished we can start installation opening a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T). In it we will only have to write:
sudo dpkg -i photofilms*.deb
This installation will show us errors when processing the previous command. This is due to unfulfilled dependencies, but we will solve it by writing in the same terminal:
sudo apt install -f
After the installation, we can find the program launcher in our system.
Get started with PhotoFilmStrip
PhotoFilmStrip is very easy to use. We just have to create a new project. Then drag and drop the images that we want to use in the project.
Once this is done, we will be able to use the image preview and crop tool to adapt them to our liking. At this point, we will be able to set the duration of the video.
We can work with the transitions of each of the images, the time of this and the other effects that we can apply to them (black and white or sepia). When we finish adjusting everything as we are interested, we only have click on the "render filmstrip" button.
When everything is ready, we will see the window in which to configure the output format and its quality. We will finish by clicking on the "Start" button. Then we can only wait for the final video to be created.
Uninstall PhotoFilmStrip
We will be able to uninstall this program from our system as easily as ever. You just have to open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and in it write:
sudo apt remove photofilmstrip && sudo apt autoremove
