Plasma 5.15.5 now available, with support for emojis in Kwin

plasma 5.15.5

More than a month after launch from the previous version, although it never reached me in Kubunu 18.10, the KDE Community announced the launch of plasma 5.15.5. The first thing they mention is that this update, like all those of the third point, is launched to correct errors, but there are also interesting news such as a support for emojis in Kwin, the Kubuntu window manager and other operating systems that use Plasma as a graphical environment.

Other new features highlighted by KDE Community in this release is that it has fixed an issue related to Qt 4 in the Breeze theme, the default visibility in non-metric units has been fixed in the "weather" plugin and an issue that caused monochrome icons to not be visible in icon view has been fixed.

Plasma 5.15.5 is coming to the Backports repository soon

At Lóleo Eventos, full list of changes We also find interesting points such as:

  • Improved support for Flatpak in Discover.
  • Various bug fixes in Plasma Desktop.
  • Improvements in Plasma Networkmanager.
  • Plasma Audio Volume Control no longer bundles when playing multiple channels.
  • In total, 36 changes that will improve the user experience.

It is important to mention two things: the first is that, as usual, that a Linux release has occurred does not mean that we can install it in the most comfortable and simple way. We will still have to wait a few days for our operating system to receive the update. The second thing is that we will not be able to install Plasma 5.15.5 if we do not add the Backports repository from KDE, something that is achieved with this command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y

It should also be noted that what is added to this repository has been less tested than the versions offered by Canonical, so it should not be used if we want something more reliable. On the other hand, KDE Applications 19.04 it did not make it to Kubuntu 19.04, so using this repository we can also use the latest versions of KDE applications when they release the first maintenance update.

Plasma 5.15.5 should be available from your Backports repository this week. To wait has been said.

The backport you have set does not work. The reason I don't know what it will be.
I am using kubuntu "bionic beaver" 18.4.2 LTS with plasma 5.12.7 desktop version.
We will have to be patient and wait for it to be available in the LTS distribution packages. The rolling release has probably already arrived
    Thanks for the info.

Hello and thank you very much for answering.
It does not give me any error. The backport is installed normally. It tells me it's done.
Then I do the upgrade. It asks me to press enter. I do it tells me it's done, but it doesn't install anything.
And I tried disabling the firewall in case it could be that. But nothing.
Thank you from the heart again.

    Hey.
I imagine this backport is: http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu bionic main.

It could be possible that this version of plasma was not supported for LTS. But I find it strange because plasma 5.15.5 ends its useful life and should be part of the LTS after its end of development and it is already stable.
    I honestly have no idea….

    Thanks again for your info.
I will stick with the plasma version I have. As a kubuntu user, like you, it doesn't seem very normal to me. But as you well have said their reasons will have. Although no one can take away my anger.
