plasma 5.16.2

It's here. The second Plasma 5.16 maintenance update is now available for download and installation, but at the time of starting this article it is not yet available from its repository. We remember that, like all versions that do not come by default in an operating system, plasma 5.16.2 It will soon be available in the KDE Backports repository. When the time comes, we will be installing a new version that focuses on bug fixes.

La informative note published a few minutes ago mentions three notable changes- Klipper now always restores the last item from the clipboard, notification identification for Snap apps has been improved, and notification history no longer saves non-configurable notifications. Among the rest of the changes, I, a GIMP user, would highlight that it can now be fixed in the task manager, something that was possible until now, but without being able to launch the application.

Plasma 5.16.2 arrives with a total of 34 changes

In total, the list of new features includes 34 changes spread across Discover, KWin, Milou, Plasma Desktop, Plasma Workspace and Powerdevil. Among the most prominent changes, we have:

  • Avoid unexpected shutdown without XWayland.
  • Milou no longer "gives up" if she doesn't find results after 500ms.
  • The multimedia controls in the task manager are more reliable.
  • Various touchpad improvements: Fixed an occasional crash on the kded touchpad, fixed some simple warnings, and Touchpad KCM no longer closes if it doesn't detect the presence of a touchpad.
  • Changes in the pop-up windows of the notifications.
  • The multimedia controls on the lock screen have been correctly translated.

The full list of news is available at this link. If we look at the programming From the release of the different versions of Plasma, we can see that the release date of v5.16.2 is today and is marked as "same day", which means that it will be available in the next few hours. If I remember correctly, 287 packages will be updated and it is worth restarting the computer for all the changes to take effect. Now it only remains to have a little more patience.
