Plasma 5.16.4, the fourth maintenance update in this series now available

plasma 5.16.4

As expected for today, KDE Community has released a few moments ago plasma 5.16.4. This is the fourth maintenance update in the 5.16 series and has come to fix bugs that are in previous versions. This version arrives three weeks after Plasma 5.16.3 and 5 weeks before the last maintenance version, a Plasma 5.16.5 that will mark the end of the life cycle (EOL) of the series whose first version was launched The 11 of June.

As a maintenance version, Plasma 5.16.4 introduces some changes, 18 in total. As usual, the KDE Community has published two entries about this release, one in which they tell us that a new version is already available that we can access from this link and another in which they detail all the changes that have been included in the new version, available here. Perhaps the most interesting were mentioned in previous KDE Usability & Productivity weeks, such as the following.

Plasma 5.16.4 arrives with these changes, among others

  • Anti-aliasing font settings are no longer altered when opening the system font settings.
  • When using the Dashboard, one-touch application open works reliably again.
  • Network widget Airplame Mode setting now remains after reboots, if Bluetooth is turned off and never appears on systems without wireless hardware.
  • It is again possible to close the “look & feel” preview window on systems using Qt 5.13,
  • Fixed a recent regression that prevented documents hosted on remote servers from being opened using the KIO command line tool when the URL for the document contained a port number.
  • In Wayland, the keyboard repeat ratio set by the user is respected.
  • The “Force DPI Fonts” setting on the Fonts page of the system settings works again.

The new version, whose source code is already uploaded, will come to Discover later today, as long as we have added the KDE Backports repository or use a distribution that includes it by default, such as KDE neon. The next release, the fifth and final maintenance update in this series, will arrive on September 3.
