Plasma 5.17.1 arrives to begin correcting the bugs found in this series

plasma 5.17.1

Plasma releases and major Firefox updates often coincide. Both take place on Tuesday and on October 22 they had to be launched Firefox 70 y plasma 5.17.1, something that has already happened. This is the first maintenance update for the 5.17 series to be released on last tuesday and it has arrived to begin to correct the problems found in the first version, such as some of the ones that we will provide after the cut.

KDE Community usually publishes two posts on its website about each release. In the first, they announce us that there is a new version. Within this first entry there is a link to A second in which is the complete list of news, this time with 40 changes in total, but in this article we are going to mention some with a more understandable language than they advanced us this Sunday in his weekly "This Week in KDE" article.

Plasma 5.17.1 highlights

  • The new apps startplasma- * they no longer break multi-line shell functions and environment variables.
  • When we connect an external screen to a laptop, close the lid and reopen it, the laptop screen is re-enabled as expected.
  • Certain systray icons no longer have an ugly black background.
  • Non-critical notifications are no longer inappropriately removed when an external display is connected to the laptop and the computer's built-in display is disabled.
  • Some GTK2 apps have stopped looking weird after using another GTK2 app with global menu support.
  • When one display is a mirror of another, the name of the mirrored display is displayed correctly on the display settings page in system preferences.
  • The NOAA ambient display image of the wallpaper of the day now works again (they keep changing the structure of their website, so the analysis keeps breaking).
  • On the Display Settings page of System Preferences, the rotation icons no longer have huge borders or misplaced tooltips.
  • The "bounce app icon" effect (which can be disabled if we don't like it) is now scaled to the proper size when using High DPI scaling.
  • The previews on the System Preferences SDDM Theme Chooser page are no longer ugly when using a High DPI scaling factor.
  • The Display Settings page of System Preferences now allows us to switch between the settings of multiple connected displays using a combo box.
  • Discover's available updates notification is no longer persistent and once again goes away on its own, because there is already something persistent in the System Tray when updates are available.

The new version is already officially available, but it still takes a few hours for it to get to Discover. Sometimes it does it a few minutes later, at least in the latest version, in this case Eoan Ermine, as long as we use the Backports repository, but other times it can appear the next day or a couple of days later. In any case, be sure to visit Discover that we should soon have Plasma 5.17.1 available.
