As scheduled, although hours later than usual, the KDE Community released today plasma 5.17.2. This is the second maintenance version of this series and it comes to continue correcting the errors that have been discovered in this version of the graphical environment or those that they could not solve until now. As a maintenance update, it does not include any new features, but it will improve the stability and reliability of what is considered by many to be the best graphical environment available on Linux.
As usual in every KDE release, two posts have been published about it, one in which they tell us about its availability, which you can access from here and another that includes the full news list. On this occasion, a total of 27 changes have been made, but the list of news that we are going to include is an unofficial one with simpler language that was advanced to us last Sunday.
Plasma 5.17.2 highlights
- Widgets on the desktop no longer lose their position when adding a screen.
- KRunner's default keyboard shortcut works again on new installations.
- The minimize all widget now correctly restores windows that were minimized when another window was opened after previously opening them.
- The window decoration page in system preferences no longer has a broken layer when using languages like German or Brazilian Portuguese.
After three releases in two weeks, the next version will already be Plasma 5.17.3 that will be released on November 12. It will be a new maintenance version like the one released today and that of seven days ago. The next major release will already be plasma 5.18 which will arrive in February and will include Kubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa. Plasma 5.17.2 has already been officially released, but it will still be a few hours until we can see the new packages in Discover.
