Plasma 5.18.2 will introduce new fixes in two days, and KDE Applications 20.04 already has a scheduled date

Plasma 5.18.2 next Tuesday

Less than two weeks ago, the KDE project released plasma 5.18.0. It was a major release with many changes, but also many bugs that its developers identified and began to fix in the v5.18.1 which was released on Tuesday last. Although many bugs were fixed, it seems that it was not enough and in the this week's entry about future news from the KDE world tell us about many improvements coming in Plasma 5.18.2.

As on any other occasion, something that I do not quite understand, Nate Graham has also published this week many of the changes that they introduced in the version of Plasma released on February 18. They will probably forget or at first they thought that they were not interesting news to include in a post, but the truth is that there are times that they tell us about future news that are already available. On the other hand, today we have been told about a new function: el SVN confirmation dialog of Dolphin 20.04 now shows a list of all the changes that will be included in the commit. Below you have the rest of the news that we have advanced this week.

  • Emoji panel sidebar icons now look good when using a high DPI scaling factor (Frameworks 5.68)
  • Discover now has a much friendlier UI for removing Flatpak repositories - it now tells us which apps and components from that repository need to be uninstalled to remove the repository, and it does this automatically if you approve (Plasma 5.19.0).

When can we enjoy these news?

The changes mentioned in this article will begin to arrive on Tuesday 25th with the release of v5.18.2 of the graphical environment. The v5.19.0 will arrive already in summer, on June 9. In mid-March we will have a new version of Frameworks, more specifically Frameworks 5.68 that will arrive on March 14. As for your applications, KDE Applications 19.12.3 will be released on March 5th. AND FINALLY! we know when KDE Applications 20.04 will be released, the next major version that will include new features. They will do so on April 23, the same day that Kubuntu 20.04 will be released. Although it was already known, this definitively confirms that Focal Fossa will not include this version of the KDE app set.

We remember that in order to enjoy all these news as soon as they are released we have to add the Backports repository from KDE or use an operating system with special repositories like KDE neon.

Sometimes it seems that developers don't test their creations before publishing them. That does not help improve the image of the Linux environment or make companies trust it ...
