Plasma 5.18.4, the penultimate maintenance release of the series now available

plasma 5.18.4

Three weeks after the previous version and as it was programmed, KDE has launched a few moments ago plasma 5.18.4. It is the fourth maintenance version of this series, the penultimate, and it has arrived without outstanding functions, but it does correct bugs detected in previous versions to make the graphical environment a more reliable and stable desktop. And, because of what was published at the time by Nate Graham, v5.18 of the graphical environment came with many bugs that had to be polished.

As usual, KDE has published two articles about this release: en first They tell us about their availability, but within it they link to one second in which we can see the complete list of news, 41 changes this time. In the previous link they mention everything that has changed, but in English and in a more technical and cold language. The list we add below is shorter, but it contains the most interesting news and is one that Graham mentioned in past "This Week in KDE" articles.

Plasma 5.18.4 Highlights

  • Fixed a case where Discover could crash during update when a terminal window was opened and used to perform a different type of update.
  • When using multiple virtual desktops, adding or removing rows is immediately reflected in the paper applet.
  • Fixed various sizing issues with long dates displaying in vertical panels.
  • Disabled system tray items no longer appear in the Preferences window as "Always on top" under certain circumstances.
  • Fonts with non-default style names (eg "Condensed", "Oblique", "Book", etc.) now display at least the normal version in GTK applications; however, it should be noted that the exact version chosen cannot be displayed due to a GTK design decision.
  • After logging into an encrypted home directory with all KWallet PAM bits set correctly, we are no longer annoyingly and redundantly prompted for the password to connect to a wireless network.
  • Resetting the Breeze settings to their default values now also resets the “Draw a circle around the close button” setting, as expected.
  • When editing a panel, the small pop-up window for configuring individual applets no longer disappears the moment you move the pointer over it.

The release of Plasma 5.18.4 it's official, but at the time of this writing we can only download it in code form. In the next few hours, the Discover of any operating system that uses Plasma will arrive, as long as we use one with special repositories, such as KDE neon, or we have the KDE Backports repository added.
