Plasma 5.22.2 removes Discover's phantom package-to-update notice and a handful of other bugs

plasma 5.22.2

They assured us that the Plasma v5.22 It arrived without many bugs, but during the weekends they did mention a handful of bugs that they have corrected or will correct. But hey, that's what the dot versions are for and that's why the first two are released a week apart, and today, a little later than usual, KDE launched plasma 5.22.2 to continue making this series the stable environment that all KDE users want to have.

No new features were expected or included, but any troublesome bug fixes can be counted as such. For example, KDE promises that Plasma 5.22.2 fixes the annoying bug that causes the updates icon to Discover tells us that we have packages to update without it being the case, something that (I think) does not happen in distributions that do not use the KDE software center.

Plasma 5.22.2 highlights

  • The main dialog effect that dims windows behind dialogs no longer flickers when the dialog is closed.
  • Discover no longer constantly alerts you for updates even if there aren't any.
  • When Plasma restarts, either manually or automatically because it crashes, various Plasma-related shortcuts such as Meta + number keys to activate Task Manager items no longer stop working.
  • In Plasma Wayland sessions, the cursor is no longer briefly invisible after the screen wakes up.
  • A specific text label on the Virtual Desktops page of System Preferences is no longer inappropriately bypassed when there is still a lot of space.
  • Discover no longer shows a notification that an offline update was successful, because if you can see it, it is clear that it has.

plasma 5.22.2 has been officially launched a few moments ago, so developers can already get their hands on it and add it to their distributions. As always, the first to install it will be KDE neon users, but it will also be coming to Kubuntu + Backports and Rolling Release distributions soon.

Discover is undoubtedly the worst software to manage software and updates.
