Plasma Mobile use Ubuntu Touch as the base of the system

Plasma Mobile

At the last Akademy we learned that the KDE Project team was working on Plasma Mobile, your mobile operating system that I did not use Mir or Unity, that is, it was different from Ubuntu Phone. Something that would not be very important, but apparently the Kubuntu team would be helping Plasma Mobile.

In a recent blog post KDE Project announced a profound change in Plasmo Mobile. This change affects the basis of the operating system that from now on it will use Ubuntu Phone to work. However Plasma Mobile will not use Xmir, Mir or Unity. The intent of the KDE Project is bring Wayland and Plasma to mobiles through Plasma Mobile.

Also, alongside Ubuntu Phone, Plasma Mobile will use CyanogenMod as the other part of that system base. Like Ubuntu Touch, Plasma Mobile will use Android as the basis for communicating the operating system with the mobile hardware. This base will be included in an LXC container who will contact Plasma Mobile. On the other hand, by using CyanogenMod as part of its base, not only Plasma Mobile will be in terminals with Ubuntu Phone but also in all those that are compatible with CyanogenMod, currently a large list of terminals.

Plasma Mobile will be available in terminals compatible with CyanogenMod

The branch they will use for develop the latest version of Plasma Mobile will be Ubuntu 16.04, a stable version that they have been forced to use as many elements are no longer developed for Ubuntu 15.04, the branch they were using. In any case, the developments are already working and we can already see how the login screen of a mobile phone works in some terminals and they even get the terminal to make calls, but still the first version of Plasma Mobile is not available for everyone.

Still it seems that Plasma Mobile will be available this year for some mobiles, something interesting for many who want to have Gnu / Linux on their mobile and do not want Ubuntu Phone, although Will they really be able to dodge the Ubuntu Touch project? Will Plasma Mobile work better than Ubuntu Phone? What do you think?

It is nothing new since meego and sailfish already used Wayland and systemd and nobody takes it into account they are the pioneers and if we compare stability of ubuntu touch with sailfish this years away
