Installation

The first step that we must carry out is the installation of the tool. To do this, we will execute the following commands from the terminal console.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gottcode/gcppa

Once these steps have been followed, we can launch the utility from the desktop:

Using FocusWritter

As soon as we launch the program, we access the main interface of the application. As you can see, everything very minimalist:

When starting the program, we can start writing from the first moment. The interface is sober enough to keep any distractions away from us. If we wait a few seconds, even the mouse cursor itself will disappear also from the screen.

By scrolling the mouse across the top of the screen, the application menu will appear, from where we can access the different options of the program. Among them are the typical ones that allow us to manage files, use different styles or access tools.

One of the utilities that this program offers us is a programmable timer, which is accessible from the menu Tools through the section Timers.

If we create a new alarm, a toaster-type alert will be activated on our desktop when the term we have programmed is reached.

Another of the functions that FocusWriter allowed us was to mark ourselves daily goals, which we can define through the Preferences menu. Among them are a specific work time or a certain amount of written words. In order to complete a milestone, it is necessary that we meet at least the progress that we define within this same section.

The result of our progress can be viewed through the Daily Progress menu, accessible from Tools > Daily progress. Likewise, it is possible to check how many consecutive days we have reached our goal.

Finally, it is worth mentioning the ability of FocusWriter to implement different themes in your interface. The motifs are really simple, affecting both the wallpaper image and the color scheme used in the document and text. Inside gallery, we can choose one of the predefined themes or create our own, in order to make our work in front of the computer more enjoyable.
