QInk, check the ink level of our printer in Ubuntu

QInk is an application that helps us check the ink level of our printer in Ubuntu, something that users of other operating systems are used to having since most of the software to manage the printer that comes for these OS brings it, but for Linux systems it is something more complicated to know.

QInk use the library libinklevel To control the ink level of our printer and it supports a good number of models, you can see the list in this linkAlthough I do not know if that list is complete since my printer does not appear and yet as you can see in the image that follows it detected it and it is effectively out of ink 🙂

For install QInk on Ubuntu first we must add our user to the lp group by typing in a terminal

sudo adduser user lp

Where username is our username, for example in my case it would be

sudo adduser leo lp

Then we just have to download the .deb package corresponding to our installed Ubuntu version, and double click on it to install it.

Once installed we find the application in Applications-> Accessories-> QInk

According to the website at the moment it only supports Canon, HP and Epson (and some exceptions from other brands). I have a Brother and I have had no luck. I will keep waiting.
salu2 and thanks for the contribution, elSant0

Interesting initiative, although I see that the latest version of libinklevel is from June of last year.

It works on Lubuntu 14.04 and detects my Canon Pixma MP250.
