QMplay2, a complete lightweight and multiplatform multimedia player

QM Play2 about

In the next article we are going to take a look at QMplay2. This is a open source multiplatform audio and video player which is based on QT. It can play all kinds of multimedia formats supported by Ffmpeg and libmodplug. To be even more complete, contains a YouTube search engine, which will allow us to watch videos from our desktop without using the web browser. The application has been created by Błażej Szczygieł.

QMPlay2 is an audio and video player compatible with the main formats and multimedia codecs. The program is available for Gnu / Linux, OS X and Windows systems. If you are looking for a lightweight media player that also helps you to listen to online radio stations and download videos from the Internet, you might want to try QMPlay2.

It is a simple application, designed with a fully customizable interface. You can play audio streams online and it will allow us save YouTube videos in our team.

As I've said before, can play all formats supported by FFmpeg, libmodplug (including J2B and SFX). It is also compatible with audio CDs, flat files, Rayman 2 music and chiptunes.

After a walk through the tabs of the program you can find the internet radio stations available to users. Many of them are of Polish origin. This I suppose I suppose it will have to do with the nationality of the developer of the program. What's more includes different video settings, effects on images, gives us the ability to rotate videos, take screenshots. Applying a filter can also enable the Spherical view of 360º YouTube videos.

I am going to install this example on Ubuntu 16.04. But who wants can follow the instructions provided by the author in your GitHub page. We can also choose to download the .deb file using wget or downloading the .deb file for our Ubuntu version on the GitHub page. If we choose to use wget, we will only have to open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and write in it:

wget https://github.com/zaps166/QMPlay2/releases/download/17.12.31/qmplay2-ubuntu-amd64-17.12.31-1.deb

Once it is downloaded, we can continue with the installation of QMplay2. For that we only need to execute the following command:

sudo dpkg -i qmplay2-ubuntu-amd64-17.12.31-1.deb

In case the terminal returns us dependency errors we can correct them by typing in the same terminal:

sudo apt install -f

With this QMplay2 will have been installed. We can start the QMplay2 application through its icon in the Ubuntu application search engine.
