Quick Notes in Ubuntu with FromScratch

fromscratch

If you have ever felt the need to take a quick note without the complications of elaborate programs that are slow and heavy on your system, here we present one that will undoubtedly become your favorite application for these small tasks. Is about FromScratch, an application developed by Kilian Valkhof (the creator of the Trimage image compressor and the F.lux applet) for the Ubuntu system as a way of taking a simple way small notes in our team.

If we had to compare FromScratch with other note-taking software, we could do it with one of the strongest such as Evernote, but FromScratch does not intend to rival this program because it does not precisely seek the visual preciousness that an elaborate GUI like that one gives us. If you are looking for something beautiful and packed with features, this program is not what you need.

FromScracth is basically a blank digital note; something that we could compare to a small piece of paper on which we can write down anything we want. Here we will not see folders, categories, tags or events. There is no way to synchronize what we write down or dates that will remind us what to do. The program is as simple as a window that can be resized and that stores everything you write in it.

The features that this simple application has are:

  • Una minimalist and simple interface.
  • Automatic storage of notes.
  • Automatic indentation of the entered text.
  • Simple replacement of content by special symbols in those cases in which it should be applied, such as in the case of arrows.

The absence of functions does not make FromScratch a useless program since it includes the most basic of any text editor, such as markup, but not in the usual way we are used to. We will not see bold, italics or underlined but thanks to the font Fira code we can create ligatures between the different characters. So, for example, "->" will become "→", "=>" will become "⇒", and "! =" Will become the symbol "≠".

The complete list of ligatures that are included thanks to this source is the one that we leave you in the image below:

FromScratch is an open source multiplatform program. It is available for the main platforms such as Linux, Windows and OS X. Its code is available through the main open project portals Github, Electron y React. Visit the official websitel of the program if you want to expand this information or simply get a copy.

Luis Gomez? Well, I would say that the real author is Joey Sneddon. Let the reader judge it by comparing this page with this other: https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2016/02/fromscratch-new-ubuntu-note-taking-app
    Typical Spanish!
