Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 LTS Beta 2 released, but no sign of GNOME 3.20

GNOME 3.20

Today has been an important day for Ubuntu-based operating systems and the users who have them installed on our computers: the second beta (first public) of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) and all its flavors. One of those flavors is Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 LTS and, as expected, it has not arrived with the latest version of its graphical environment, a GNOME 3.20 is available to the developers of operating systems since last Wednesday.

This second beta is not a major release. We could say that it is an update that has focused on correcting errors thinking about its public availability, so that any user who decides to try it does not experience major problems. The good thing is that Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 uses GNOMEsoftware as the default package manager, leaving aside an Ubuntu Software Center that I don't think anyone will miss. On the other hand it also uses GNOME Calendar and other GNOME applications that are not available in the current version.

Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 LTS now available for anyone who wants to try it

The second Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 LTS beta fixes bugs such as the GNOME Control Center sharing panel and various issues related to language pack installation and iBus support. Like the rest of the operating systems of the Xenial Xerus brand, Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 LTS comes with Linux Kernel 4.4.6.

On the other hand, this new version of the Ubuntu flavor with a GNOME graphical environment comes with an experimental session of Wayland, but it is disabled by default. Users who want to try it will have to manually install the package gnome-session-wayland to be able to select the "GNOME on Wayland" session from the login screen.

If you want to download Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 Beta 2, you can do it from its official page, available at THIS LINK. If you want to try one of the second betas of the rest of the official Ubuntu 16.04 flavors, you can do it from the page cdimage.ubuntu.com.
