Rhythmbox 3.4.4 releases a new icon and introduces these other new features

Rhythmbox 3.4.4

Until some time ago Rhythmbox it was the default player in most distributions that used the GNOME graphical environment. Although Ubuntu continues to use it, the project's music application is now GNOME Music, a much simpler application that some people like more because of its design and others less because of some problems, such as that it cannot read the library if we do not have our music in the folder with the same name.

Rhythmbox is no longer being updated as much as before and the main responsible is GNOME Music. They are still introducing new features from time to time, but their development is a bit stalled. In their latest version, v3.4.4, they have decided change icon for one that simulates being in 3D. Here is a list of other notable new features that have been included in this version.

Rhythmbox 3.4.4 Highlights

  • New icons, such as the application and symbolic.
  • Support to get covers of coverartarchive.org.
  • Use HTTPS for external requests (where applicable).
  • New plugin for Listenbrainz.
  • Constant bitrate / quality for .flac and .alac files.
  • Support for mounting and synchronizing BQ phones with Android operating system.

As an Elisa user, the second of the previous points catches my attention or causes me some envy: Rhythmbox 3.4.4 will search coverartarchive.org for covers of the disks in our library and will display them in the application. It is a function that was already available in other applications and that I think they should add to what will be the Kubuntu's default player starting this April. Right now, Elisa shows many discs with a generic icon, even though some metadata does include information about their cover.

Rhythmbox 3.4.4 has not yet made it to the official repositories of any popular Linux distribution, but it does will be available out of the box in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Focal Fossa and can be installed from Flatub for weeks.

Rhythmbox is a wirklich guter Mediaplayer. Obwohl er in vielen Linux Distros mit geliefert wird, läuft er nicht immer Stabil. Er stürzt ab und gibt keine Fehlermeldung ab.
