Sensors Unity, an app to control the hardware of our computer

Unity Sensors

Surely many of you you use Conky or Applets like Lm-Sensors, applications that allow you to control the temperature of the processor, the speed of the hard disk or its capacity. This is useful information that both Ubuntu and Gnu / Linux offer to users without the team having to die for lack of resources.

However, it is true that we do not always need this information, sometimes it is only a specific moment or when a certain operation is carried out. That is why the developer of Unity Sensors has created this program.

How to install Sensors Unity on Ubuntu 16.10

The idea of Sensors Unity is to offer the speed and temperature of the processor or our equipment in a punctual way. Thus, Sensors Unity is installed in the Unity panel and when we want to see the information, we press the icon and a window will open with the required information. This means that the desktop does not consume more resources than necessary, only those necessary to open a window and display the information.

Sensors Unity is an interesting application but sadly we cannot find it in the Ubuntu repositories. In order to install Sensors Unity we have to open the terminal and write the following:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rojtberg/sensors-unity

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt install sensors-unity

After this, the installation of the program will begin and we will have the direct access in the Unity panel, but it won't work unless we have the lm-sensors installed and configured. If you don't have it, in this article We tell you how to install the sensor package.

The justification for Sensors Unity is logical and interesting. Something that could be useful for users who have a bit old or old computers, but the choice is always yours and many may still prefer their old Conky to the new Sensors Unity Which one do you stay with?

I stick with psensor, it is found in the ubuntu repositories. It can be configured to load at system startup. You can also activate that it warns you if the temperature (of the processor and of the video) exceeds the value specified by the user, etc.
