In the next article we are going to take a look at the sFTP client. The File Transfer Protocol and Secure File Transfer Protocol (FTP/ SFTP) provide a standard way to transfer files between computers, regardless of operating system (Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, etc.).
sFTP client, is a FTP client / SFTP / FTPIS / FTPES / SSH full-featured. These programs are commonly used to transfer files from your computer to a web server. SFTP is more secure than FTP because it ensures that the entire transfer session is encrypted. This means that passwords are not sent clearly. Thus, they are less vulnerable to interception.
Before continuing, it must be clarified that in order to enjoy some of the features, it will be necessary buy a license. While you are using the unlicensed program, you will have to watch some advertisements and settle for the basics. Although it offers enough to be able to work with it without problems.
SFTP Client General Features
Next we are going to see some of the most interesting features of this program:
- We the possibility to use a standard FTP connections.
- Apply SSH over File Transfer Protocol (sFTP).
- FTP/SFTP Passive mode.
- Connection to servers Remote (external) and local (internal) FTP / SFTP / SSH.
- Will allow us change file / folder permissions using the checkboxes or value: for example, 777.

- Multiple FTP / SFTP / SSH accounts. We will have tabs for scrolling if we have many open connections.
- Close connection. Disconnect from the server and delete all activity.
- Show all FTP / SFTP / SSH activity logs.
- It will show us the transfer queue. Both the satisfactory and the wrong ones.
- Just double-click on the files to start uploading or downloading them.
- We will be able select default local directory per connection.
- We can see the last 10 connections on the welcome screen.

Install sFTP Client on Ubuntu
We will be able to install this client in different ways on our Ubuntu system. The first and simplest of the forms will only require that we open the Ubuntu software option. In it there is nothing more to look for and install sftpclient.
This software is offered to us through un official snap pack designed to work safely on most Gnu / Linux machines. On the snapcraft screen they will indicate another of the possible options for installation. It is about opening the terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and launching the following command to complete the installation:
sudo snap install sftpclient
In case of using Ubuntu 16.04, first make sure snapd is installed on your system. If you can't install it by typing in terminal:
sudo apt install snapd snapd-xdg-open
The last possibility of installation would be to download the .deb package necessary to install it on your Ubuntu. This you will be able to download from their website.
Uninstall sFTP client
As we have different ways to install the sftp client, we will also have different ways to uninstall. In case you have chosen the installation via snap package, in a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) write:
sudo snap remove sftpclient
