Step by step of How to clone your hard drive with Clonezilla?

Clonezilla

As I had spoken to them in a previous Clonezilla entryon this occasion I will leave you a tutorial to learn how to clone our hard drive, which involves making an exact copy of everything we have stored in it.

First instance we must have the system already recorded, either on a CD or USB, now as a second step we must have the disks that we are going to useObviously, we must have the disk that we are going to clone.

We can record the system with the dd command in Linux, with the tool that they offer us from their official website called Tuxboot or from Windows we can do it with the Lili USB Linux Creator software.

Now we must make sure we have enough space on the disk where the system will be cloned, this is more than obvious.

Now we must start our computer with the Clonezilla CD or USBThe easiest thing here is to use the first option, when the system is fully loaded, it displays a series of configuration options.

Clonezilla

The first will be choose the language, here we choose the one that best suits us.

Then he gives us choose which keyboard layout we want to use, we can choose the one that comes by default "do not touch keyboard map", although I would recommend that we choose the first one, to search for the keymap, which in my case is qwerty and in Latin.

Clonezilla

Once this process is done, Clonezilla is configured to work to our liking.

Clonezilla

We can use the wizard or if you are an advanced user you can use the Shell. In this case we will choose the first option.

Clonezilla

Here it shows us a series of options to work in this case,  I will choose the device-device option, the one with which we will clone the disk to another.

Clonezilla

After this, a screen will appear where we can choose between "expert" mode or "novice" mode, in this case we will select the expert mode, with which we will adjust some extra parameters.

Clonezilla

Here we will display the detected disks, starting with the disk that we are going to clone, we select it.

Clonezilla

And after this we proceed to select the disk that will receive the cloning.

Now In the following list of options we will be shown the parameters advanced to configure.

Clonezilla

Here we can leave the ones that appear by default or add additional ones, to mark or unmark these we do it with the space key.

Yo here I recommend marking the -icds option, what this option does is to ignore the check of the sizes of the disks that Clonezilla will work, if you get to have problems with the file formats of files you can mark -q1, with this option it will perform a sector by sector cloning.

Clonezilla

Now, it will ask us about the partition table that we are going to use on the new disk. Here in this case we will leave the selection that shows us by default "Use partition table of source disk" to avoid later problems, immediately afterwards we give Enter.

Clonezilla

Here we will display a small summary of all the configuration that we have selected during the process, as well as a warning indicating that the data on the destination hard drive will be lost.

If you are aware and sure what you are doing is correct, will ask us to confirm with Y, again we will display the same warning and again we will confirm with Y.

From this moment the cloning of the disk beginsWe just have to wait for the process to finish to be able to turn off the computer, disconnect the hard disk that was cloned and leave the destination disk to check that everything is correct.

Without further ado, we can explore the other options that Clonezilla offers us, such as it is, create an image of the system to make a backup of it and store it in the medium we choose, as well as perform the cloning from the disk image.

For now it is all and I hope it will serve you for future occasions.

I can think of something that may be an inexperienced platitude.
If I clone the hard drive I save all the information. Then I can install a new version from scratch or clean without fear of losing data. Once the new ubuntu installed I recover the information that interests me and delete from the "destination" disk what is no longer useful.
Ale. You can already get involved with me. Or also advise me how to do it.
Thank you very much and happy ubuntu year 2018

I have a query, can I, for example, clone the current installation to create an image of it and place this image in a hidden partition and then use it when necessary to restore the machine to the same state it was in? like notebooks do, they have a copy of the original installation and then one can restore the machine to factory state.
I am not necessarily interested in the fact that the process is automatic, that is, as notebooks do, that one simply chooses an option in a menu and the process is done alone, but it could also be done manually, leaving the copy of the image in a hidden partition. and then using Clonezilla and doing the work myself to restore the machine, my question is, if that can be done and in any case, which partition should I clone, that is, clone the system partition only or also the home? or how would it be done?

    Good morning:

When I clone computers, in some classrooms I have problems with the partition table creation at restore time.
The DRBL does not let me choose this option when I configure Restore.
On the other hand, in the unicast restoration with Clonezilla Live it does let me (dd, partimage, ntfsclone ...)

Is there any way that the Server lets choose the way to create the Table?
    Thanks in advance and greetings,
