Subiquity, the new Canonical installer for Ubuntu Server

subiquity

Apparently the development of Ubuntu Zasty Zapus brought several secrets and several surprising news. We already met one of them at the time from Mark Shuttleworth. We have recently met the other by the hand of Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre. The Ubuntu Server manager has announced that in a short time there will be a new installer, an installer for the server version that will improve compared to previous versions.

This new installer is called Subiquity and we can already enjoy it although only in a beta way.

The new Subiquity installer was created by various Ubuntu developers, was secretly created during Ubuntu 17.04 development and it is now when it has been released for the Community to test this new installer and contribute any errors and bugs that it may have.

Subiquity could be the new Ubuntu installer and its flavors in addition to Ubuntu Server

Today there are two Ubuntu Server installation images. These images correspond to the traditional version and another is a virtual machine image that has the new installer for users and System Administrators to test the new installer and the new version of Ubuntu Server.

Por el momento this new installer is present in Ubuntu Server but nothing has been said about the installer for the other official Ubuntu flavors, something that could also change soon if Subiquity is successful with users.

Despite that the installer is a pending issue, the most surprising thing is the development in secret. A development that is not typical of Canonical or another group of developers but it seems that it is becoming more and more common. So it seems that Ubuntu 17.10 will have some other hidden surprise as well as Ubuntu 18.04. However What surprises will these be?
