How to install SuperTux on Ubuntu and derivatives?

For those who are interested in being able to install this new version of this popular game, they should know that SuperTux is distributed under builds special for each Linux operating system (AppImage and Flatpak), Windows and macOS.

So in the case of our system that is Ubuntu or some derivative of it, we can download the AppImage file to only give you execution permissions and be able to enjoy this entertaining game.

The AppImage file can be obtained from the official website of the project, although for those who prefer it, they can open a terminal and obtain the file with the following command:

wget https://github.com/SuperTux/supertux/releases/download/v0.6.3/SuperTux-v0.6.3.glibc2.29-x86_64.AppImage -O SuperTux.AppImage

Once the download is done, we have to give it execution permissions. We can do this from the terminal by executing the following command in it:

sudo chmod +x SuperTux.AppImage

The graphical alternative to this method is to right-click on the package and not only give Read and Write permissions to the user, but also check the box " Allow to run the file as an executable program”We save it and close it.

Then we double click on the package and the automatic execution of the program will begin.

Y finally They will be able to execute the file by double clicking on the file or from the same terminal with the command:

./SuperTux.AppImage

Now for those who prefer to use Flatpak packages they simply must have support for this type of package added to their system. And the installation of this new version of SuperTux can be done from a terminal by executing the following command in it:

flatpak install flathub org.supertuxproject.SuperTux

Also, since the game is not finished yet, there are still updates to be received, so you can check if there is a new version with the following command: flatpak –user update org.supertuxproject.SuperTux

And voila, you can start enjoying this game.
